The first SSH call, launched on the 22nd of December 2006, has been the first step of a long path that will last 7 years. The call had a fixed deadline (10 May 2007) and a one-stage submission procedure has been used.
Proposal evaluation 531 proposals were submitted. Out of 531 submitted proposals, 44 did not pass the eligibility check or were declared ineligible during the evaluation. The 51% (270 proposals) of the submitted proposals passed all the evaluation thresholds. (Figure 1: Proposal evaluation results)
Due to the limited budget not all the 270 successfully submitted proposals will be funded. For the time being 65 proposals have been invited to the negotiation phase, while 24 proposals are in the reserve list.
The overall success rate of the 1st deadline is 12,2 % (calculated on the 531 submitted proposals). It is worth mentioning that SMEs were coordinators in 20% of the submitted proposals while 9% of those were successful! This success rate reveals that SMEs can support the scientific with their expertise on practical issues.
Only 26 Topics in 7 Activities were available for proposal submission. The most ‘attractive’ Activity was 8.3 “Major trends in society and their implications” were 185 proposals have been submitted. (Table I: Number of proposals per activity)
Type of participants Overall, 3.851 organizations participated to the submitted projects and even though the SSH field is usually considered as “academic domain”, 121 “private for profit” organizations took part to the projects. (Figure 2: Type of Participants)
The majority of participants are based in the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany. Those countries count for 1/3 or the EC countries participation. (Figure 3: Number of participants per country and Figure 4: Contribution of non-EU countries)
